How to toilet train your adult dog
Step 1: Be prepared with treats on hand – keep them easily accessible so you can get to them quickly.
Step 2: As soon as you get home or your dog wakes up (first thing in the morning is good) take them straight outside for the toilet. Let them know on the way outside that its “toilet” time by saying the word a few times.
Step 3: As soon as they are finished going to the toilet, reward them straight away saying something like “Good girl, toilet!”.
And that’s it! Keep practicing this each day, rewarding your dog for their toilet successes.
If you have adopted a dog and they are taking a little longer to master this than you had expected, try to appreciate that they have potentially been used to going to the toilet in the wrong place up until this point. The undoing of this learned behaviour will happen, you’ve got this (and luckily delicious treats to help motivate them!)
